Intermediate Solo Poling Canoe Course

This course is a Paddle Canada Introduction to Intermediate Solo Poling Canoe course and is scheduled for June 22/23 in Fredericton, NB. We have space for 6 canoes on the course, on a first come first serve basis. This fun and exciting experience will provide an opportunity for paddlers with little experience on moving water (AKA Rivers and Streams) to develop the skills to be able to navigate rivers safely using a pole while standing with confidence at an intermediate level. There is also the opportunity for a Intro level certification as well.

Prerequisite requirements: A demonstrated ability to maneuver a canoe in a lake environment with a understanding of the river environment being an asset but not MANDATORY (based on conversation with an instructor). This is an introductory / Intermediate course and basic skills will be covered.

What can you expect?
Saturday Morning we will cover all paper work and basic knowledge requirements. Next, we will cover basic skills needed in a flat water environment (lake), then we will move to a river environment to continue to practice the moves in moving water. Day two will be a full day paddling on a river with opportunities to continue to practice and refine the skills from day one.

Questions? Read below and if I don't answer them contact me.
What do you need?
1. A tandem canoe suitable for moving water. (a smooth bottom boat without a keel)
2. Paddles – Poles will be provided or you can bring your own if you have them.
3. Transport Canada safety equipment (signal device, bailing device, throw rope, life jacket)
4. Cold water clothing - Wetsuit or dry suit with other layers appropriate for the outdoors. If this is a barrier for you reach out and we can discuss options. (also weather dependent for this time of year)
5. All other personal gear to make for a safe and enjoyable day(s) on the water.
6. Vehicles - the group will work together to make transportation happen. Shuttling to put ins and take outs will be organized as a group.
